Port Tobacco River Conservancy Watershed Plan

Jan 8, 2007 - 7:15:36 PM

Southern Maryland RC&D joined forces with the Port Tobacco River Conservancy and the Center for Watershed to develop a comprehensive management plan for the Port Tobacco River Watershed. The project began with extensive water sampling efforts to assess water quality and identified areas of concern. Surveys were distributed to watershed residents and the results guided the development and distribution of 12,000 educational brochures covering septic systems issues and the Port Tobacco River. Over 500 local residents and conservationists have participated in water monitoring and community activities connected to this project. The project culminated in the creation of a watershed management plan for the 47 square mile watershed.  The project was completed on September 29, 2006.
