Southern Maryland RC&D, National Park Service, Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club, County Government and many other partners are working hard to promote the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail corridor in Southern Maryland’s Charles and St. Mary’s Counties. National Scenic Trail designation for the Southern Maryland route was granted in 2008 for the roughly 200-mile on-road bicycle route utilizing existing facilities and connecting green spaces and historic sites. The route incorporates the Indian Head Rail Trail and will incorporate the Three Notch Trail upon its completion, offering paved on and off road facilities. Signage, safety and marketing are new priorities for the Southern Maryland PHNST and RC&D.
