Indian Head Works Toward Becoming a Trail Town

Jun 21, 2010 - 1:57:02 PM

With help from Beth Porter (National Park Service), Peggy Palmer (Chair, Indian Head Economic Development Commission), Heidi Fick (Charles County Park Manager) and Cathy McCollom (Trail Town Program Director), Indian Head citizens, elected officials and interested organizations have formed a committee to pursue the transformation of the town of Indian Head to a Trail Town.  The benefits of the newly opened Indian Head Rail Trail are the primary focus of this initiative, but the Town's location along the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail also makes it well-positioned to become a Trail Town, "a small town center of commerce for bikers, visitors, and residents."

Assessments to measure trail access, safety, ammenities through the town, and development capacity have taken place, and two focus groups have formed as a result of prioritization activities: outreach and development. These groups have made plans to meet very soon.  If you are interested in being part of this process, follow the Indian Head Trail Talk blog at www.indianheadtrail.blogspot.com for information and updates.

RC&D looks forward to being a part of this exciting effort!
