Oct 10, 2016 - 3:49:55 PM

Southern Maryland RC&D recently was awarded a $22,034.00 grant from the Rural Maryland Council through their Maryland Agricultural Education and Rural Development Assistance Fund (MAERDAF). The grant funds will be used for housing, meals and facility shortfalls for the 30th Annual National Conservation Foundation Envirothon Competition . The competition will be held at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD from July 23-29, 2017.   The Envirothon is a program that combines classroom learning with outdoor hands-on activities to prepare students for the competition. During the week-long event, students will be trained and tested on their knowledge in five topic areas: soils and land use; aquatic ecology; forestry; wildlife and a current environmental issue which changes each year. Teams from 46 state and 9 Canadian Provinces will gather at Mt. St. Mary’s University to attend this week-long event.
