Indian Head Works Toward Becoming a Trail Town - Jun 21, 2010 - 1:57:02 PM
With help from Beth Porter (National Park Service), Peggy Palmer (Chair, Indian Head Economic Development Commission), Heidi Fick (Charles County Park Manager) and Cathy McCollom (Trail Town Program Director), Indian Head citizens, elected officials and interested organizations have formed a committee to pursue the transformation of the town of Indian Head to a Trail Town. The benefits of the newly opened Indian Head Rail Trail are the primary focus of this initiative, but the Town's location along the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail also makes it well-positioned to become a Trail Town, "a small town center of commerce for bikers, visitors, and residents."

As Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry Wraps up Mini-Grant, Dynamic Partnership with RC&D Continues - May 14, 2010 - 2:28:57 PM
RC&D recently announced its new partnership with Southern Maryland Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) as a result of a $5000 mini-grant received from the National Association of RC&D Councils. We are happy to report that Southern Maryland FHFH estimates 14,540 meals from 78 deer totaling 3,635 pounds of donated meat were supplemented with high protein, low-fat venison from the $5,000 in mini-grant funds. That is about 34 cents per meal to add quality protein to meals for those in need. These grants funds not only increased the quantity of meat available to supplement meals distributed at food distribution centers, but they also helped to extend the length of time Southern Maryland FHFH was able to donate venison to the centers and pantries by two months.
